Do you shop in Pelham?
The
Pelham Business Association "Think Local' marketing campaign is
initiating a two way conversation with Pelham residents. "As business
owners, we want to know what our customers think about shopping locally
for goods and services, says PBA President Larry Clark. "We love to
hear the good news but we also want to know about the concerns. We have
developed Think Local-Shop Pelham customer survey cards to encourage
residents to talk about both." The
Association will be distributing the survey at the Pelham Farmer's
Market and at participating businesses. This Voice of Pelham and the
Pelham NEWS are assisting the survey process by including a clip out
copy of the PBA consumer survey on this week's "Think Local -Shop
Pelham" feature page. If you want to convey your support or relay any
suggestions to business owners just go ahead and clip out the survey
below, fill in your responses and deposit your completed survey at the
collection boxes located at the Town of Pelham municipal office or at
the Voice of Pelham office. We
consider market surveys to be an invaluable tool for researching the
attitudes, concerns, needs and loyalty of consumers, explains Campaign
Director, Click

is what Carol Pitre, Manager of TD Canada Trust had to say about
her recent Customer Appreciation Day held on Friday June 5th :
"We have been getting a lot of clients appreciating the fact
that we have the poster up, giving out the shopping list and last weeks
large poster was really good. They all like that fact that we are
supporting our own." May

Leads Economic Recovery April
employment statistics reflected an interesting phenomenon in Canada -
while approximately 1,100 workers reported losing their jobs in April -
37,000 people also became self-employed. More and more Canadians are
joining the entrepreneurial ranks. Finance
Minister, Jim Flaherty, at a press conference in Hamilton, Ont., Friday,
May 8, 2009 told a business audience that he views this increase in self
employed workers as one of the ‘glimmers of hope' and an indication
that the recession may be softening. As
a career self-employed individual and as Campaign Director of our newly
launched ‘Pelham Think Local' marketing initiative, I am encouraged
that our Federal government has gone on the record to endorse the
economic impact of the small business sector, says Pelham Business
Association Director, Cathy Berkhout-Bosse. Small business owners are,
in fact, the largest employers nationally and have provided the most new
jobs in Ontario for many years in a row. Pelham
has a strong history of entrepreneurship. Our campaign is intended to
highlight the "can do" spirit and energy that has built our Town and
will continue to contribute significantly to its future growth and
development. Pelham is a wonderfully supportive spawning ground
for a diverse and eclectic variety of unique product and service
innovators. Many small business operations among us will evolve to
become much larger enterprises. It is this same creative energy that
will lead to sustainable National economic recovery. PBA

Local First for a Stable Economy The
Pelham Business Association has developed the Pelham Think Local
marketing campaign in order to promote the economic benefits of shopping
locally for goods and services. As individual consumers, as business
owners, as government officials -indeed as citizens of Pelham-each one
of our purchasing decisions directly impacts the strength of the
community where we live. Locally
owned businesses and professional enterprises represent the primary
commercial sector in Pelham and collectively and individually, local
business owners and professionals are committed to the social
responsibility of participating in the on-going development of a
sustainable and vibrant Pelham community. The Pelham Business
Association consists of 80 local business and professional enterprise
members. A full membership list is available by visiting pelhambusinessassociation.ca. "The
Local First movement is expanding rapidly in communities throughout
North America, and now we are introducing it to Pelham consumers and
retailers," explains PBA President, Larry Clark. "More and more
people understand that supporting local independent businesses is
essentially voting with your dollars for a healthy local economy." Why?
Local businesses are more accountable to customers and the community,
ensure the unique character of a neighbourhood, are more likely to
support local charities and have greater direct control over the
environmental impact of their businesses. "We
are hearing a lot about the benefits of shopping for local food and
local wines," says Clark. "Many of us don't realize that the
purchase of a VQA Ontario wine puts as much as 4 to 6 times more money
back into the local economy of southern Ontario than an imported wine.
That's incredible consumer power. We are looking to apply the same
economic multiplier effect to the price of all kinds of other excellent
products and services that are available here in Pelham. Think
