"Did you know" that Klager's Meats is the oldest business still operating in Fonthill. All the fresh meat they sell is Raised in Ontario.
Klager's Meat's was establihed in 1934 by Gordon Klager, and has been in the family ever since. The business is now run by Gordon's daugher Eleanor, son in law Fred and grandson Jamie. They belong to the Ontario Corn Feed beef program and the Ontario Homegrown Program. Every cut from beef to pork,lamb,chicken and turkey is raised in Ontario.
All of their sausage (9flavours )are made of pure pork - no filler, no addatives and gluten free. Turkey sausage is made the same with no addatives or fillers.
They make their own burgers - beef, chicken and turkey in store and once again the medium and lean bugers as well at the turkey and chicken are 100% meat with nothing added and gluten free. In October they make a trip north to pick up fresh Ontario Cranberries right from the bogg. Eleanor uses some of these to make homemade cranberry sauce.
They make their own Meat Pies - Beef, Pork and Tourtiere.
For all of you special occasions FRESH FREE RANGE turkeys are available. They can also get on request BBQ OR Suckling pigs.
They also have home made cabbage rolls, meat balls in sauce and stuffed peppers. Their in store bakery produces a variety of breads,rolls and cookies as well as homemade butter, pecan, pumpkin and mincemeat tarts.
From the first Thursday in May til the last Thursady in October you can find Fred and Jamie cooking those famous Burgers and Sausage at the Pelham Farmer's Market.
Very little of their meat is prepacked, they take pride in cutting what the customer wants, they offer personal small town service.
The Arbour's are of the Pelham Business Association and Fred and Eleanor are active members of the Fonthill Lions and Lioness Club as well as serving on other town committees.
